Our recent excursion to Goodwill proved quite fruitful... I turned this boring old brass bowl into our new glamoupuss kitchen pendant. My husband thought I was nuts when I picked it up...
It was pretty, but all bent & warped. Luckily the metal was thin enough that it could be pushed back into shape. The hubs drilled a hole through the bottom & we inserted a simple light kit. Luckily, that same trip, we picked up another chandelier that we weren't using the chain or canopy for so we attached that as well.
I did spray paint the canopy black & then wash over it with a Brillo pad to reveal some of that brass to help tie it into the fixture better. Isn't it lovely? I am seriously obsessed with it. This light has completely transformed the kitchen.
Here is a little before reminder...
Here it is after some chalkboard paint, new handles & campaign inspired braces, & our new pendant!
I also painted our window sash black... I think it made a big difference.
Now the kitchen is almost complete. Some new lights (big idea for those!) & some window treatments & that is it!!
We had a very busy DIY weekend... so be on the look out for lots of new projects.

That light fixture is awesome! I love your kitchen so far, especially the detailing on your lower cabinets. Megan

Hey Kristin,
ReplyDeleteJust wondering where you got your gold drawer braces? Do you know if they make them to cover the whole corners of the drawers?
Hey Liz,
DeleteThese are actually just flat metal L braces from the Hardware Store. There are numerous online retailers for Campaign Hardware corner braces.
This is gorgeous! I just found your blog via Emily A Clark - new follower alert :)

ReplyDeleteThanks Christin! I made the stool out of a Goodwill plant stand & a marble top we had lying around.
DeleteI JUST saw this pendant tutorial after searching your blog for where you got it. Since I won't be able to buy it, I'll have to search the world over for a similarly styled brass bowl. Pretty sure my mom has one! ;) ;) It turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteHi Kristin! Where did you find your brass cabinet pulls?

Thank you for the flush-mount idea! And the paint you used to achieve that "vintagy" look.
ReplyDeletebeautiful things you've done to make it yours. :)
ReplyDeleteI am too much of an in-the-box thinker to see a bowl and envision it as a lamp. But I love it!
ReplyDeletedid you paint the tile on your backsplash?
ReplyDeleteI am so in love with this light fixture! I saw your kitchen recently and have been trying to figure out where you got it, then saw this post. AMAZING! I love what you did and it really does "make" the kitchen.
